"ALTHOUGH it’s barely 200 pages long, Natalie Danford’s first novel has enough plot for several books. On the one hand, it’s the rags-to-riches tale of an immigrant who comes to America to escape a dark secret, is cheated and scorned, yet eventually rises from the rank of janitor to attain the pinnacle of American success, a house in the suburbs. On the other, it’s the sensual odyssey of a young woman in Italy, complete with liberal helpings of butter and carbs, the reckless driving of a Fiat, and sex with a former thief. It’s also a mystery involving an old key, hidden at the back of a drawer. And it’s a story about the Holocaust. " Read the review at http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/25/books/review/Mishan3.t.html
